About Talking Birds

Talking Birds is a company of artists engaged in the transformation of spaces - both real and imagined. The company uses language, performance, visual design, sound, music, video and film in its work, in varying combinations and weights. The work is created, and experienced by audiences, in many different places, including theatres, cinemas, concert halls, on television, the internet and radio, as well as in specific ‘sites’, whether a seaside town’s seafront promenade, an aircraft hangar, a Slovakian mayor’s balcony or an underground car park.

As architects of ideas which are realised through a range of artistic means, the Company's key aims are to extend excellence in cross artform practice; to engage a broad and diverse audience; and to realise ambitious artworks through collaboration.

The Company was formed in 1992, and marked its tenth year through the HELLOLAND* project in 2002. Recent works include: Wanderlust site specific performance/installation for the South Bay Underground Car Park, Scarborough; Solid Blue site specific show trial made for Whitefriars, the 14th Century monastery nestling amidst the Coventry ring road flyovers; Hypnogogia, an elegy for two performers and eleven televisions in two halves of fifteen minutes with a two hour interval; Girl With A Movie Camera video short reappropriating archive material; and CityScapes alternative audio tour of Coventry city centre. Talking Birds is funded by Arts Council West Midlands as a Key Regional Organisation.
